*Last Butterfly*Burnished butterfly
With sadness fluttered goodbye
Autumn slipped away.
*Moon Glow*Comfort of darkness
Time to think no distraction
Moonbeam, gentle glow.
Ablaze!Woman with fire in eye
Flame from heart ablaze
Living life without asking why?
Instinct driven, there in gaze.
Flame burns, flickers, smoulders
Tempered not with regret
Eyelashes fan this endless flame
Impossible to forget
*Fairytale*Took a magic carpet ride
Full of excitment we did glide
Over sea to far off land
Where wizard with wave of hand
Showed us worlds of fantasy
Adventure and of mystery.
Went sailing on 'Spanish Main'
Treasure chest so tightly chained
Jolly Roger hauled up high
Prow of ship with beak and eye
Captain with a wooden leg
Swigging brandy from a keg.
Sinbad the sailor next to meet
Very kindly he did greet
Glad to show us his domain
Here we go.... to sea again
Ocean heaving, lost sea legs
In borrowed clothes, sailor threads.
Flew eastward sadly Aladdin was out
Rubbed the lamp, with major doubt
Genie erupted with ferocious shout
Aladdin had serious magical clout
Fright of my life, real freak-out!
Warts on my story begining to sprout.
Over the sea carpet glides
Back to house where I reside
Fairytale memories do abide
Dreaming deeply slither and slide
Fantastic moments here described
Cross my heart I have not lied.
Eternity!Graveyard full, eternity waits
Departed souls face their fate
Flowers uplift, soothe primal fear
Struggle with eyes, falling tears.
Tears fall freely on mother earth
Her arms hold eternity, gentle berth
Hopeful souls lie dreaming deep
Firm belief faith will keep.
Keep us safe, forever and a day
Eternity then will have her way
Like a circle no beginning or end
With infinity we will blend.
*Catchphrase*'All that glitters is not gold'
When I was young this was told
Have found it to be very true
So pass that thought on to you.
'Absence makes heart grow fonder'
'Straight as an arrow' I fly
Letters all tied with ribbon red
Treasured words so often read.
'Always look on the bright side'
life will surely cast net wide
Luminous thought uplifting light
Gloom and doom serious blight.
'love conquers all' so very true
Should its pain have wounded you
Balm of forgiveness, feelings appleased
Love heals hurt, wishing godspeed.
* Nomad*Time of change, years ago
Since then life's bittersweet
Cold seeped into my life force
This engenders great remorse.
History coloured many days
Odd wonderous moments enjoyed
Benjamin Disraeli kissed my hand
His charm I managed to withstand.
Was presented at Russian court
Dressed in white my favours sort
More than a few felt tempted to bite
Kept my fangs well out of sight.
Napoleon Bonaparte Corsican upstart
Eventually exiled to Elba
Dined on him, his blood so thin
Obvious to me he would not win.
Life of change, one wish denied
Should love to turn back time
Not possible - it's torture for me
So many people would disagree.
The Gathering!Under cypress tree, when moon is high
Spirits gather, hear collective sigh
Cemetery arisen, short hours of bliss
Dearly departed create ghostly mist.
Nebulous night walkers mean no harm
Our presence detected, they'll raise alarm
Collective reminder of what use to be
Distant past calls, no future they see.
World changed face, so many times
Mounting fear from grave they climb
What is this world? impossibly new
Lost their place how strange the view.
Underworld is now their domain
Time has come and gone, no pain
Dreams don't invade, no tears to weep
Spirits consoled, eternal sleep.
Behold Beauty!Beauty around is all I see
Beholden to nature, her gift to me
Simple flower to great oak tree
Gaze in wonder on bended knee.
Meadow sways in gentle breeze
Poppies, buttercups, gentle heartsease
Weary soul by beauty appeased
Summer moment gladly seized.
Soft snow falling, iridescent light
Sky aglow, winter white
Rainfall through Celtic mist
Endless beauty, not to be missed.
Storm raging down by shore
Ocean tossed, howling more
Salt spray driven high in air
Sight of beauty there to share.
These are treasures, hold them dear
Nature's brilliance throughout year
Perfect performance, beauty behold
Close to heart as pleasure unfolds.
With the Princess in her Glass CastleIn a snowball
out of time;
wandering the roads
of her shawl
and her hair,
wild cocoa and thyme,
I am searching
for a rescue,
Like the snowflake
looking for home
after its silent ball
in her stare.
Ocean EyesYour ocean eyes will inherit the earth,
and the gulls of the sea will not brace you
for what the waves and winds have broken down.
The pearls of your mouth are just now washing to shore,
and your endearing reach trusts with ivory naivety,
but your lack of profanity will not save you from perversion.
All I can do is sing you love songs,
and hope the world is still worth saving,
when your ocean eyes reflect the sky, still blue.
Gifts from the Palm of my Hand1 haiku
winter moon wanes-
holiday lights come down
sets the emerald wicks
of my medication aglow
winter morning stillness-
a crow calls
between echos among the pines
sun setting from below,
rain-gorged clouds ablaze-
this short day of winter
half dressed by a window
gazing at frost on the cars
reading me his haiku-
steam from our morning tea
fogging his glasses
how small the scar
a kidney once was
showing off my new lingerie
he smiles and says
"there's nothing wrong
with my heart"
a cloudless sky
on this blustery day,
inviting the sun's warmth
and a knowing reach,
I open my coat
after a night's rain
more than one moon
The Beauty of DeathDeath is something I fear.
And yet I find it ever so enchanting...
It wraps me in its coils, whispering
Disturbing words, a mindless ranting
Yet words so full of grace and beauty.
They call me a madman.
But what is there to chide about?
I find death beautiful--I find it amazing.
There really is no reason, at me, to shout
Yet those who see me praise this glorious work
They insist that I am insane.
But death is something they should not fear!
Death is life, and life is death.
Without death, life cannot draw near
And without life, death cannot exist.
Death is beautiful.
Death is sad--oh, ever so sad!
But within the hollow graves of men
I see deep inside the seams of good and bad
Upon death, one may see all!
But without death, life is utterly worthless.
For those who have lived long lives, hear my call!
Does life not grow long, tiring, and much too thinly stretched?
Drinking tea, socialising, creating ideas, attending balls—
Does not all of this gro
Death's Lullaby.Life drained from its former passion,
hung on the thin thread of luck.
The rules are simple, comical.
Either you stay still or you die.
Sinking deeper, engulfed in unwrought nigritude.
Slate black faces,
buried inside shadows of hoods,
Bony fingers cruddle grinning sculps,
caressing fear as if it were an infant.
Hollow screams echo eternally like a melody
through unsought caverns.
As Death sang a lullaby.
Coming up from Aswan with his catch,
he tacks the course of his dhow
along the Nile of her dark eyes,
her long hair,
the narcotic of blue water lilies,
her lotus pose facing both
the rising, and the setting sun,
the young fisherman begs to know
as he sings upward with his might
and his desire, into the sail
that catches the crosswind--
What is your name, scented one,
in the smoke that rises
from the shores of the cataracts,
where I bring to you my bounty!
He peers into the azure above,
waiting for her answer to fill his sail,
calling out once more as his teeth gleam--
Ma huwa 'ismuki?
RainRain trickles down my window pane
Crying diamond tears
Walking down the lane
Frozen in time
Like an old photograph
Bright colors, subdued with nostalgia
Kiss the flowers' velvet dresses
A fresh breeze
Swirls around me in a whirlwind of
Hope and love
I inhale the dreams that died
Buried under the hard ground
That the new rain has unearthed
I dance with abandon
Childish laughter bubbles up like a spring
As I vivaciously stomp through a stagnant puddle
Life breathes around me
As I spin and twirl
Smiling as the sun begins to shine on me
Parting through grey clouds
It beams at me with its gorgeous rays
And we say goodbye to the remnants of the vanishing rain
Rubaiyat: Space in My EyesMy, how lovely is this quiet sea,
Breaking on the shores and on the lea
Curling, tasting of the air and wind,
Taking with its waves a part of me.
Give it back: the pieces I rescind.
Night calls for the cobwebs worn and thinned,
Stretching in the grass--a well-loved place
Fulsome, empty, cold, replete with sins.
Beautiful your midnight frosted grace;
Fearful is the night moon on your face.
Say I, come and walk awhile alone;
Beaches, silence, glitters bright deep space.
Stars breathe miles away in heat unknown
Scent of space and call of night intoned
Split the air with grace, peel back the crust
Letting rocks and trees their praises groan.
Given that I mark the night unjust--
Broken cobwebs much like broken trust,
Thinned and glinting is the breath of dawn
Breathing interplanetary dust.
Light breaks forth and brings all life foregone.
My, what is this journey I am on?
Scream, oh stars, as sunlight hides your depth.
I--I take the hill-road, grace withdrawn.
RuinsFallen, desecrated -
The windows to your soul are stained;
You would kill to be a mosaic, but
You are no Roman empire.
The windows to your soul are stained -
You were never high beloved, no
You are no Roman empire;
You have crumbled under the weight of the world.
You were never high beloved,no -
Fallen, desecrated -
You have crumbled under the weight of the world...
You would kill to be a mosaic.
*Winter Reflection*No clouds float on winter ocean
Cold ripples run towards shore
Horizon's dark line off in distance
Sharp sea smell, sadly summer no more.
Dank wet sand clings to boots
Hands in pockets keeping warm
Red nose so cold, inelegant drip
Away from warm fire was torn.
Fickle time does not wait
Weeks, months will surely pass
Winter season coldly fleeting
Momentarily will trespass.
Crown of ThornsShe wakes up with red staining her pillow
and the taste of blood like iron in her mouth
It stains her teeth and leaks from her lips, and as she
rinses her mouth out, she can’t help thinking that
it’s better than dirt and ashes
it feels like she’s wearing a noose
of broken promises and shattered glass
that tightens around her throat with every day that passes
She nails a smile to her face
and doesn't let herself think the word dying
